StoryLine: Beauty and the Beast (2017) In France, an enchantress, disguised as an old beggar, arrives at a debutante ball and offers an enchanted rose to a young prince in exchange for shelter in his castle from the bitter cold, but he refuses. For his arrogance, the enchantress transforms him into a beast, his servants into inanimate objects and inflicts a spell on the castle. She gives him a magic mirror that enables him to view faraway events, along with a rose. To break the spell, the prince must learn to love another and earn her love in return before the rose's last petal falls. If he fails, he will remain a beast forever. Years later, in the village of Villeneuve, a young intellectual girl named Belle is bored of her village life and seeks excitement. A vain hunter and former soldier named Gaston tries to woo Belle but she repeatedly turns him down. Belle lives with her father, a music-box inventor named Maurice, who is overprotective of her due to her mother's death when Belle was a child. Maurice and his horse Philippe get lost in the forest while traveling to sell music boxes and comes across the Beast's castle. After eating a fathomable dinner, he immediately leaves after supposedly hearing a teacup talk, but plucks a rose from a nearby bush before leaving. Philippe abandons Maurice when the Beast discovers and captures him, and leads Belle to the castle, where she offers to take her father's place. Over her father's objection, the Beast accepts Belle's offer. She is soon released by the castle's bouteiller, Lumiere, who was turned into a candelabra as a result of the Enchantress's curse. He gives her a more comfortable room, despite the objections of the castle's majordomo, Cogsworth, who was turned into a mantel clock. Belle acquaints herself with the other castle patrons who were cursed like the head of the castle's kitchen staff, Mrs. Potts who was turned into a teapot; her son Chip, into a teacup; court composer, Maestro Cadenza, into a harpsichord; Maestro Cadenza's wife and opera singer, Madame de Garderobe, into a wardrobe; and the maid and Lumiere's girlfriend Plumette, into a feather duster. After the staff offer Belle a meal, she wanders into the forbidden West Wing. When the Beast frightens her out into the forest, Belle encounters a pack of wolves. The Beast rescues Belle but he gets injured in the process. As she takes him back at the castle to recuperate, Mrs. Potts informs Belle that the Beast's nature stems from under the care of his cruel father after his kind mother died, causing Belle to sympathize with the Beast. Meanwhile, Maurice returns to Villeneuve but is unable to convince the others to rescue Belle. Gaston goes with him to gain his approval to marry Belle, but soon tires of Maurice's seemingly far-fetched tale and reveals his true colors to him, prompting Maurice to deny him of Belle. In revenge, Gaston chains Maurice to a tree. However, Maurice is rescued by a villager named Agathe and he returns to the village to persecute Gaston of leaving him to the wolves. Although some of the villagers defend Maurice, Gaston convinces the villagers to send Maurice to the town's insane asylum. Back at the castle, the Beast, after giving Belle access to a library, he also shows Belle another magical item left by the Enchantress, a book that allows anyone to go anywhere they desire. Belle uses it to send the two to Paris where they enter a small house that Belle used to live in with her parents, but discovers that it's old and abandoned and soon learns from a doctrine mask that her mother died from the plague. Soon, while sharing a romantic evening dance together, Belle tells the Beast she misses her father. He lets her use his magic mirror to see him. She sees Maurice being attacked by the villagers. The Beast lets her go out to save him and he gives her the mirror to remember him by. Belle finds Maurice and brings him home. As Gaston is about to forcibly bring Maurice to the asylum, Belle proves Maurice's sanity by showing the Beast with the magic mirror. Realizing that Belle loves the Beast, Gaston convinces the villagers that the Beast is a man-eating monster and leads them to the castle to kill him. With Maurice's aid, Belle escapes from confinement and rides to rescue the Beast. While the villagers are fended off by the servants, Gaston fights the Beast with his shotgun. The Beast initially is too depressed to fight back, but perks up after seeing Belle return to the castle. He corners Gaston, but spares his life and orders him to leave. However, when the Beast turns to Belle, Gaston fatally shoots the Beast from a footbridge, but it crumbles and he falls to his death. As the last rose petal falls, the Beast dies in Belle's arms and the enchanted staff lose their anthropomorphic state. Agathe enters the Beast's room just as Belle professes her love for the Beast, and reveals herself as the Enchantress. She turns the petals into enchanted dust and sends them to the Beast, slowly turning him back into a human, resurrecting him, and reversing the curse as the castle is restored to its former glory. As the newly restored Prince and Belle kiss, the rest of the staff turns back from objects into humans and rejoin the world. Belle dances with the Prince in the ballroom as everyone watches in delight and as she is now living contently with her new family.
